FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why Nights in Iron?
Nights in Iron was founded in 1995 and has been handcrafting iron beds for 30 years. The quality of our beds speaks for itself, much of our business comes through word of mouth with customers returning time and again to add to their collection.
Our beds are hand-forged from solid iron bar rather than hollow tubing providing exceptional rigidity and stability unlike cheaper lightweight metal and cast iron reproduction frames. Our bed joints are all fully welded with an exceptionally strong steel bed base, which bolts the headboard and footboard rather than the old fashioned knuckle joint slot-in (generally cast iron type).

Bed Design
Our solid upholstered bases are just like a normal platform top divan but only 2″ deep. They create a top quality mattress support and fit nicely into the strong steel base frame. They provide a solid base support to your bed and are great for any mattress type. Simple to assemble, you will find them much easier to move and re-assemble in another room or house at any future time.
Our slatted bases have very closely spaced slats so provide excellent support combined with the strong steel frame work. They slightly soften the feel of your mattress as they are beech laminated sprung slats and have adjustable tension in the lumbar area. They are supported by a 2” square box section steel running the full length of the bed base’s centre, this design is very strong and supportive, built just like a bridge.

Mattresses
The mattress shopping can be extremely confusing. So many choices in relation to types, spring options and fillings; trying a mattress out briefly in a show room gives little indication of how it will actually feel at night.
Over the past 25 years we have ‘tried and tested all our mattresses. We are completely confident that our range represents the very best in comfort, support, durability, quality and value.
Call us and have a chat if you are unsure which to choose.
Pocket sprung mattresses are independently sprung with small springs separated within cylindrical material pockets. Because they are not wired together in any way there is no ripple movement effect across the bed when one partner moves. Comfort and quality varies according to the number of springs and the type and quality of fillings that are used – natural fillings are best, Cashmere, silk, lambswool, cotton.
It is important to turn your mattress regularly. We recommend every two weeks for the first three months and then once a month thereafter turning over east to west and occasionally north to south. Turning your mattress regularly helps the upholstery fillings to settle more evenly. This settlement of the upholstery fillings will be concentrated more in the centre of the mattress where you may see your body impression (where the heaviest part of your body lays) – this is perfectly normal. Pocket Sprung mattresses have more deep layers of upholstery and so take more time to settle.
